An American legacy of racial exclusion in both public and private spaces have resulted in people of color (POC) cycling at far smaller rates than their white peers in modern days. Yet communities of color stand to gain the most benefits from cycling. From economic empowerment, to health and mobility equity, and simply experiencing more joy in everyday life. The Brown Bike Girl was created to assist to the knocking down the barriers between POC and this life-enhancing tool known as the bicycle!
The Brown Bike Girl exists to cultivate more cyclists and bicycle advocates of color. POC bicycle club leaders, bike entrepreneurs, or bike activists need to exist to advocate for the often overlooked or unconsidered access and safety needs of communities of color, and to invigorate their communities from the inside out.
The Brown Bike Girl is an enthusiastic partner to those present and future leaders, and provides program development consulting and ideas for activating and enhancing bike ridership and self-directed advocacy among black and brown cyclists. We can work together on any idea!
